This shows how great social networks are. The circuled flickr contacts are people we have met through blogging, podcasting , vlogging, etc. In one, Aiden (chris and jen's son) is looking at Bre (on the monitor) and the other pic is Bre taking a shot of himself in the mirror. Cool. Completely independent of each other.

This is the talk of the blogosphere if you believe tech.memeorandum. It is the Microsoft handheld It Does It All device. It is brilliant. I can't help long for one. Someone described it as "ipod but much more." Why do multimedia devices always get talked about inApple-related speak?

I am not surprised at all that they have been working on a concept device like this "with other partners". They'd be daft not to.

Anyway. I am not going to bother to describe it because it simply does too much. If you believe the video. I like the moped bit where the guy lifts up his helmet and gets the device out of his knapsack. Now Microsoft WOULD impress me if the guy's visor was the screen so that he did not have to take the device out of the bag.

Gromit in Trafalgar Square, London

This was interesting to see the other day. a giant inflatable Gromit from Nick Park's Wallace and Gromit fame. I was on my way to a meeting. The meeting had to wait.

Couldn't help wondering if this was a new tactic in London's Regulation of Pigeons campaign.

Not mine. A friend of mine has just had a baby - well she had it in November - that's still new really.

Anyway, she has only gone and got a new puppy too. Madness?! Boadie is cute, even though he is not a cat.

I am really glad to see this bit of news. P2P distribution is really very sensible and does not have to be about piracy.

Google.com and Google.cn side-by-side image search

Google.com and Google.cn side-by-side image search

This is an interesting comparison of Google image search results using Google.cn and Google.com, posted by Schneier on Security.

As you can see, the shot on the right shows Tiananmen as a lovely happy place full of rosy memories. A far cry from the representation of the place on the left. Of course, if one mis-spells tiananmen, ie tianenmen, one arrives at more consistent representations. Language has always had the potential to be powefully subversive.
